AuctionAsk collects information you provide directly (e.g., name, email when registering), as well as usage data to improve your experience. We use session keys — stored locally in your browser — to remember saved searches and recently viewed items without requiring an account.
- Account information (email, name) — only if you register
- Session key (anonymous identifier stored in localStorage)
- Browsing activity: artworks viewed, searches performed
- Device and browser metadata (IP address, user agent) via server logs
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and improve the AuctionAsk service
- To personalise your dashboard (saved searches, followed artists)
- To send price-alert notifications if you opt in
- For aggregate analytics on market usage (never sold to third parties)
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data. We may share anonymised, aggregated statistics for research purposes. We use Microsoft Azure SQL Server to store auction data; your account data is stored separately and encrypted at rest.
4. Cookies & Local Storage
AuctionAsk uses a session_key stored in your browser's localStorage to track recently viewed items and saved searches — no login required. Authentication tokens (if you sign in) are also stored in localStorage and are never sent to third parties. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
5. Data Retention
Session-based data (views, saves) is retained for 90 days unless you delete it from your dashboard. Account data is retained until you request deletion. You may request deletion at any time by contacting us.
6. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (EU GDPR, California CCPA, etc.), you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Opt out of non-essential data processing
- Export your data in a machine-readable format
7. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, hashed passwords, and access controls to protect your data. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
